A lifelong secret scribbler, I wrote my first draft of Heretic, aged 16, frustrated by the lack of relatable female voices in the fantasy I was reading (Tamora Pierce being one of a few a welcome exceptions).
Life happened. Career happened. And now there are many women publishing all kinds of brilliant and diverse fantasy their way. So, nearly two decades later, I thought I’d try and join them. By finally finishing the story that never quite went away.
Heretic is an adult historical fantasy, following a misfit FMC trying to save her sister from a predatory emperor intent on revenge. Alt-medieval world, fragile masculinity and stubborn survivor women seeking a voice. Genre fiction with a literary edge.
After a career spent in the technology and television industries, I’m fascinated by how women are portrayed in the media. Particularly around issues of ambition, emotion (especially anger), sexuality and neurodiversity.
